| Good afternoon. My name is Shinya Horiuchi. I am from Network Service And Technologies
I am here to make a presentation about some datacenters technology. This will help you to understand the current trends concerning datacenters.
The term DataCenter includes a myriad of concepts. So I have divided my talk into three noteworthy parts: First is Fibre channel over ethernet known as FCoE. Then I'll present trend of cooling method for datacenter. And finally, I'll outline what are the MPLS-TP .It is a kind of network protocol.
That's the agenda. So let's get started.

Firstly I will talk about FCoE. What is a FCoE.
The answer is a name of technology that exchange Fibre Channel frames over Ethernet networks. In datacenter ,network can be separated into two types of network.
The first network is to communicate with other computer. It is network that we use to email or surf the internet. The second network is to store and retrieve a mass of data that is in storage. We are usually not aware of this kinds of network . It works behind the scenes.
Recently , more and more data and communication are treated in datacenter. It also means that the number of cables transfering those information drastically swell. Code overrun like spaghetti and network equipment's surface covered with connector. Because of limited space of datacenter ,this have been considerable problem. Those situation also impede smooth repair and maintenance.
Then FCoE is proposed. It realize integration of those two type of network and it will save spaces. Integration of network that carried FC and Ethernet must be reduction of connector and code. FCoE is relatively new technology and some organization are addressing standardization now.
FCoE are realized by basic technology that is Converged Enhanced Network. It is abbreviated to CEE. Someday in the future , FCoE become standard like ethernet.

Secondly , you engineers should notice trend of cooling method for datacenter.
Nowdays , Free Cooling is increasingly adopted. Meaning of Free Cooling is to cool down datacenter by utilization of external air and some natural sources. External air are used to cool coolant water down . And that coolant water are used to cool equipment.
Or the air are sometimes directly introduced into datacenter. Due to requirement of low temperature , datacenter have often been build in cold region.
And there are another technical trend. It is called hybrid cooling system. Previously, cooling equipment is installed along wall of floor and cool the whole floor down. But in these days ,density of equipment have increasingly grown. To cool down efficiently , cooling system's target have been focused on more narrow space. Hybrid cooling systems are ususaly installed top of racks or along the line of racks.

Finally , I would like to speak of a network protocol that is utilized in datacenter. It is called MPLS-TP.
In the past , WAN or wide area network user demands reliability rather than bandwidth of network. As compared with a decade ago, now bandwidth is also required for WAN , because of rich contents. So network infrastructure steadily shifted from lease line to physically shared line that is more fast and cheap.
While lease line's reliability is very high , shared line have relatively lower reliability. MPLS-TP will make up for that shortcomings and can integrate legacy equipments into new one's.
One reason for that is architecture that protocol can adopt. Traditionally, each network routers and switches have information of route control. They decide best path by themselves ,but it could lead to trouble of entire network. In contrast, MPLS-TP can manage information of route control comprehensively by center router.
And MPLS-TP also include mechanism that can change over circuit at once. Those mechanism have been included regacy technology , but newer WAN protocol including IP and ethernet don't have those mechanism. Also ,the same can be said for OAM function (operation administration and management) that detect circuit trouble immediately.

In conclusion, as we have seen , there are some trends of datacenters. FCoE will be reduce required space inside of datacenter. And it must be prevail.
Free cooling and hybrid cooling will be boost efficency of datacenter cooling. Also it leads to cutback in some kind of cost.
MPLS-TP will make an improvement of availability of useful systems. At the same time, it will make fee of cloud service cheeper.

| Good afternoon. My name is Shinya Horiuchi. I am from NSAT . And I mainly in charge of dispersing the expertise of new network equipment to our maintenance staff. Today I am here to make a presentation about some datacenters technologies.
Because you are responsible for repairing network equipment and new product is marketed day by day, this will help you to understand the current trends concerning data centers. Then you will effectively make yourself master of new products.
But the term Data Center includes a myriad of concepts. So I have divided my talk into three parts: First, I’ll cover what datacenter is. Then, I’ll present challenges which datacenters face. And finally, I’ll cover some of the new technologies that can solve those problems.
So that’s the agenda. Let’s begin.
---------------- Firstly I will talk about what is datacenter? The answer is a facility equipped with or connected to one or more computers, used for processing or transmitting data. That is a basic principle of data center. But to understand data center correctly, we have to follow the data center history. Because form of data center have been changing last few decades.
In the past, huge computers were in computer rooms of each company. But during the dotcom bubble in the late 1990s, a mass of company require non-stop operation of system and more fast internet connectivity. And small company were not capable of maintain environment that can fulfill those demands. Then some companies began building very large facilities , and providing rental service of their data center.
Now, industry of datacenter has grown significantly. And the scale of data center has also shown considerable expansion. Because of this momentum, some problems have emerged. And that trend affects the form of data center. -------------------------------------------- Let’s move on to the next theme. What kind of challenges have modern datacenters now faced?
Lately, organizations all around the world began pay attention to global warming. It coupled with the fact that data center operation has tended to expend a great amount of electricity, owners and users of datacenter cannot ignore environmental effect. Simple expansion is no longer acceptable, given the current data center’s greenhouse gas emission.
Next problem is related to space. With an expansion of the scale of IT system, datacenter have run out of spaces that store the cable. Storage area network could curtail the number of storage device and virtualization will reduce the number of servers. But code and connector will be rampant continuously. It is more than just a mess.
Last problem is user’s requirement for availability. Nowadays, IT operations are a crucial aspect of most organizational operations more than ever. Even if they became victim of devastating disaster, they have to continue their operation. This fact require careful planning for the component of data center as well as location and design of building. Additionally, novel concept have been introduced. I’ll explain about this idea later.
----------------------------------------------------------- Turn to the next subject. We know there are some problems. But, are there any solutions? The answer is yes. To address those problems, some new technologies have been introduced to data center.
In concert with concern of global warming , IT devices have gradually became more efficient regarding the usage of energy. And some energy-consuming device will be replaced with a more efficient device. For example, Solid-state drives typically have lower power consumption than HDDs. And it becomes an active area of research. And new cooling methods are introduced to datacenter. For instance free cooling method take advantage of external air to cool coolant water. It must be help to reduce energy consumption.
Also, space problems will be addressed. The technology that is called FCoE , can solve the problem related to space. There are two types of network in datacenter. One exclusively carries data of storage device, and another NW transfer any other data. FCoE can integrate those two different networks and reduce the number of cable.
To keep availability high, nowadays datacenter fortify their redundancy. Of course, parts of device and device itself have redundancy for continuously operation. Besides these trends, now datacenters have backup themselves. Advanced technologies can switch from primary datacenter to secondary datacenter. For example, company operates their system in Tokyo datacenter. When devastating earth quake hit the Tokyo, then the company can switch the system to Osaka and operate the system in Osaka. That is called disaster recovery. ---------------------------------------------------------------
As we have seen , IT innovation affect datacenter’s situation dramatically. Some changes pose a host of issues to datacenter. And requirement of datacenter become complicated. As new technologies have came up , we have to learn about those technologies as IT engineer. But it may be interesting and funny, I hope. I also believe that those moves must bring us a profit, If we can make these aspect chance.
